PTA Members receive a directory with the purchase of a membership. This invaluable tool contains family contact information and class lists. The chairpersons are responsible for compiling information into directory format, making ads for business sponsors, collecting PTA and school information, coordinating the cover contest with the Art Teacher, and distributing directories. Chairpersons will work with the LH office staff and the district printing office. This Committee needs two chairpersons and proofreader volunteers. (Committee responsibility starts at Back to School Bash in August and ends upon distribution of directory in October)
Lenexa Hills is only as strong as the relationships we build with each other. This includes relationships between students, parents, families, and staff. At Lenexa Hills, we would like to convey a strong sense of community. The coordinator will be responsible for planning events throughout the year that promote community, relationship building, and educational enhancement. Events include but are not limited to Chairperson will plan and implement Back to School Bash/Ice Cream Social (with assistance from Executive Board), assisting with the planning and implementation of a school fundraiser/fun run (with assistance from the Fundraising Chairperson(s) and Executive Board), dance parties, STEM night, Sports night, Arts and Music Night, Movie nights, Skating Parties, Sky Zone Events, Pumpkin Painting, Playground play dates, Community Service Nights, Animal visit from a zoo or Ernie Miller. Will also assist YSA, Health and Wellness, Bookfair, and Field Day Coordinators with any events that need additional parent support.
Fifth Grade Timber Ridge Chair
Every fall, sixth graders take a trip to Timber Ridge, an outdoor school program approximately 20 miles away from the school. The camp is situated on 350 woodland acres. Every student will experience this adventure accompanied by teachers and other staff members. One of the reasons why the trip is in the early fall of the sixth grade school year is to help the class bond together and help ensure that their last year of elementary school is memorable. To offset the costs of attending Timber Ridge, fifth-graders start fundraising a year in advance. Fundraisers will be determined by Chairperson and could include product sales, a Family Fun Night, or an evening fundraiser supporting an activity the Fifth Grade is working on in school. Fifth Grade Timber Ridge chair is the leader of the committee and the liaison to the PTA Executive Board. The school Principal is responsible for pointing the Chair and the committee. (Responsibilities run yearlong)
Gardening and Sustainability
At Lenexa Hills, we are committed to giving our students a variety of learning opportunities. This position will coordinate the classroom flowerbed program. This person will need to have knowledge about gardening or the desire to learn. This person will work with the Principal and school staff to develop a Lenexa Hills Farmers Market in the spring. This position will also help oversee the greenhouse.
Girls on the Run (Fitness Clubs)
This 10-week program is dedicated to teaching girls to know and activate their limitless potential. This group will meet in the spring, twice per week, where they will be taught life skills through dynamic, interactive lessons, and running games. Girls will receive an official program t-shirt, and a water bottle, plus a healthy snack at each practice. At season’s conclusion, the girls will complete a 5K running event, with a 5K finisher’s medal. (Committee responsibility includes coaches training through GOTR. The session is in the spring)
The PTA and Staff at Lenexa Hills have many exciting ideas they would like to try but we are often in need of extra funding to make these ideas a reality. Chairperson would work with President and Principal to identify potential grants to submit to. Chairperson would develop grants to assist in educational enhancement at Lenexa Hills Elementary.
Pride in our school and its outward appearance shines through with our efforts to maintain the outdoor environment. The coordinator will work with the school Custodian and Principal on maintaining outdoor planters. Will also coordinate a school-wide community service workday for school grounds beautification in the spring. This position, in conjunction with Gardening/Sustainability Chair, will recruit volunteers to help maintain our gardens over the summer. (with assistance from YSA Coordinator).
